Afrika Tikkun’s Early Childhood Development Programmes are among our most developed projects. Through them we seek to ensure that children between the ages of 0-6 are emotionally and physically nourished.
Early Childhood Development is provided both through our Centres of Excellence and our Home Based Care programmes.
These programmes provide for the holistic developmental requirements of children in their formative years, encompassing physical, cognitive, social and language-development needs.
Through these programmes, our goals are to:
use play activities to develop young children in the areas of numeracy and literacy
empower community Early Childhood Development programmes already in operation
develop Early Childhood Development staff and assist crèches in compliance with government standards
It takes a village to raise a child
Everything we do has an holistic approach. This means that we care about the bigger picture, and in the case of our Early Childhood Development Programmes, we care about the broader communities and their involvement in the development of children.
Hope Africa looks beyond the growth of the children in our programmes. We will work with existing crèches and Early Childhood Development Centres. We also provide them with information on the latest trends in Early Childhood Development, as well as access to our well-stocked toy libraries.
Why Early Childhood Development
Programmes matter
Early Childhood Development is the bedrock for a child’s school career. The benefits of Early Childhood Development Programmes cannot by overstated, and include the following:
Children who participate in Early Childhood Development (ECD) Programmes are shown to have higher school enrolment and completion rates and lower drop-out rates
An investment in ECD saves money on remedial education later on
ECD Programmes improve parent-child relationships
ECD Programmes reduce economic disparities and gender inequalities in society
ECD Programmes free parents up to look for employment, potentially increasing household revenue
